Designer Kimberly Ovitz.
Ever wonder what a designer does all day? We asked the recent New York transplant Kimberly Ovitz to write it all down—and show us a day in her life!
850AM
The dogs, Matzo ball and Lox, and I walk to work two blocks from my apartment in downtown New York.
9AM
I get to the office in Tribeca on the edge of Chinatown, we just moved into our New York office earlier this year.
930AM
The company got to New York in March and we had no home for a few months. The new offices are beautiful but we are already growing out of them!
10AM
Grab a venti nonfat cappuccino from the neighborhood Starbucks and begin returning emails.
11AM
I touch base with all departments to see if there is anything that is a priority or a time sensitive matter.
NOON
This year I finally brought all departments in house so it is an amazing experience having them all right by my side.
1PM
Take dogs out for a walk around the block for a bathroom break.
2PM
Order in lunch at my desk from Souen – yummy fresh ingredients that I miss coming from Log Angeles. I continue to do emails or work on a little animal welfare projects.
3PM
Meet with my digital media consultant, she’s been with me since before I moved to NYC, we discuss upcoming social media initiatives and e-commerce for my resort ’11 and spring/summer ’12 collections.
330PM
Work with my awesome pattern maker (she moved with me from LA) on sketches after I drape a style from the upcoming fall/winter 2012 collection.
5PM
Go to the FIT library and the MET to research the collection inspiration further.
730pm
Leave the office as along as it’s not around or close to market/show time, otherwise I’m here much later.
745PM
Drop off the dogs at home.
8PM
Meet a friend for dinner at Extra Virgin in the West Village.
