The St. Edward's Crown

Před 59 měsíci

Hello lovelies! Today I bring you something that you might have seen in real life or simply didn't notice that it exists on Stardoll at all!

I'm talking about the Saint Edward's Crown.

Made in 1661 for the Britian's King Charles II (who by the way, married that year with a Portuguese Princess, Catarina de Bragança, who was after the Restauration of Independence of Portugal, Infanta de Portugal, as she was the new king's daughter. Infante/a is an exclusive Iberian title given to the children of a King or Queen that aren't a direct heir), this was the beginning of the crown's legacy.Charles was himself king for a short time, just following the death of Cromwell, who infamously melted and destroyed the Crown Jewels.

This crown was made for his coronation and ever since, has remained as part of the Coronation Regalia. It is only worn in the act of coronation itself, never on other occasions. So basically our very-much-loved Queen Elizabeth II only wore it once. She only saw it again 67 years later for a documentary about her coronation "The Coronation," where she spoke candidly about the coronation and wearing the crowns.

Encrusted with 440 precious stones, which include sapphires, amethysts, emeralds, citrines and tourmalines, which are set in an acanthus leaf shaped setting and all of that rests on a frame of solid gold that weights 5 pounds. Like mentioned before, this crown is meant to be worn only once, and for any other events requiring a crown, the Imperial State Crown comes from the Tower of London.

The only monarchs that didn't wear this crown was King Edward VII, who didn't wear it due to his fragile health, (He wore the Imperial State Crown instead, with this one by his side. It was placed on top of his coffin when he died, though), King William IV, King George IV and Queen Victoria didn't either. It's understandable. I mean, it's 5 POUNDS (2.3 kg) on your head!

This crown came to us on Stardoll via Perfect Day, a store that debuted in 2011, just around the time of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's wedding, which was, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful royal weddings of the decade. The store also featured Grace Kelly's wedding dress (the famous Princess of Monaco) and also the Late Princess Diana's wedding dress.

I'm glad to have bought this crown early, even thought I never actually wore it (what would I wear it with?) and it sat on my closet for years until I finally had enough money to create a Throne Room suite, where it rests now, in a white cushion so everyone can see it. I wish we had a more recent one, the graphics on this one aren't exactly the best ones. I love Stardoll's way of designing jewelry now. Imange how detailed and beautiful this crown would be if it was designed now!!
