One of the biggest questions we seem to ask ourselves as young people is, "Who am I?" At first glance, this seems like such a simple question. Everyone knows who they are! I'm Kat, I'm a girl, I love music...there are so many ways I can express who I am. On a deeper level, though, it can be tricky to sort out what really makes you you. 

It can be easy to change who you are based on who you're with, or what society tells us is cool. If a cool character on TV is sassy and rebellious, it might be tempting to follow her lead. On the next season she has a boyfriend and she parties all the time, so that must be the way to have lots of friends.

Media can be a great influence on our lives, but it can also affect us negatively when it tells us we have to act different to be liked. I know that I've worn clothes not because I liked them, but because I thought other people would. I've felt the pressure of society to please others over myself.

Take some time to think about the way you live your life. Who is it for? You might not realize right away how much of your style and even your personality might be based on the expectations of others. Figure out what you actually like, and go with it! If it's not hurting anyone, you shouldn't feel ashamed of it! Be unapologetically you!
