Decades of Fashion -1
1920's
The roaring twenties were all about celebrating and having fun so fashions were designed for dancing! I love dropped waist flapper girl dresses with their fun beading. This is a perfect party look! Flapper fashion was one of the first trends that everyone could wear because the simple shapes of the shift dresses were easy to copy at home. The most fashionable flappers wore couture, beaded gowns, had short bobbed hair and feathered headdresses. Fun!
1930's - 1940's
Because lots of things were in short supply after the war, fashion in the forties focused on reusing old clothes and materials. It was dubbed "make do and mend". But because people couldn't shop so much, they became very creative, making new outfits out of old ones. Lots of looks were based on the uniforms worn by soldiers, a trend that has never really gone away. Military-inspired coats are in the shops almost every year!
1950's
The fashion of the 1950's was much more fun than the thirties and forties. Teenagers dressed to dance, with the girls in wide, full skirts and neat little blouses or sweaters. Boys started to pay attention to fashion too with their leather jackets, greased back hair, turned up jeans and short-sleeved check skirts. A fifties look is easy and fun to put together for daytime or parties. You just need a full skirt with a nipped in waist and a pretty jumper. If you're going all out, try adding a full underskirt and put your hair back in a high ponytail to get the full effect!
