Things I Learned From Stardoll

för 56 månader sedan

Welcome back!

December this year will mark 7 years since I first joined Stardoll - when I was seven years old (pictured here is my original doll)! As much fun as I’ve had playing, there have also been some lessons that being a member of this site has taught me that I will always remember.

-It broke down gender stereotypes.

Growing up, we’re often told things such as ‘boys don’t wear makeup’, or ‘girls can’t take on leadership roles.’ Seeing people who prove these misconceptions wrong from a young age helped me view gender differently.

-Words make a difference.

As with any website with space for interaction, people sent hate to one another. Of course this got reported and dealt with, but it was never nice to watch victims become upset. Positive words however, can make someone’s day.

-Sometimes, you have to let go.

There are several people I have met through this site, many of whom have decided to leave Stardoll and move on. This was definitely sad to see, but it’s important to remember to let go of the people who choose to let go of you.

-Stardoll made me better at navigating other sites.

Because I joined at a very young age, I got a better insight into the world of how websites are laid out, which made me more efficient when taking computer science classes, and dealing with the internet as a whole.

-Having fun is easier than it appears.

Due to various health issues, I spent a lot of my time off school and know that if it wasn’t for Stardoll, I would have been bored out of my mind! I’m very glad I was introduced to the site and  it made a very big difference to who I am.
