Looking for Alaska

Today's blog post is a little different and it's about a book. I read a book in 2017 that really affected me. It is called Looking for Alaska by John Green (author of The Fault in Our Stars).

This book is all about a guy named Miles who wants to escape his boring life in Florida so he decide's to go to a boarding school and their he meets Alaska Young, who is described as a beautiful but damaged girl.

This book deals with many themes but the main one being death and Mile's obsession with famous last words. The book also discusses what happens after death and what you believe happens. The book deals with death in such an honest and heartbreaking way and John Green really grasps what it is like to be a teenager.

Looking for Alaska also deals with love--more importantly being in love--with the idea of someone rather than actually being in love with that person. As humans, we place people on a pedestal, whether that is a partner, parent, or friend, however when we see the bad in them, we no longer like what we see. We paint people to be so perfect so when they mess up or you see the bad side of them, we no longer like them.

'We need never be hopeless, because we can never be irreparably broken. We think we are invincible because we are." - John Green
