"Let the Colours Shower Joy!"

πριν 155 μήνες

It's just gone 10am and the sun is shining. You're walking towards the market place. You feel the heat of the sun. You see the celestial blue sky. You hear chatter amongst people in the distance. BANG! Someone has just drenched you with their coloured-filled gubara. Now your favourite DKNY dress is covered in red-pink coloured water - bura na maano Holi hai - no offence, it's Holi!!!

This year, 8th Match, the Holi festival marks the arrival of spring and celebration of creation and renewal. People from all backgrounds gather together to celebrate. Holi is based on a legend about the God Vishnu, where it is taught that good will always win over evil. During this time, people have fun throwing coloured powder and water at each other. Also, large bonfires are burned in order to commemorate the evil Holika being defeated in the flames, whilst the loyal Prahalad surviving with the protection of Vishnu.

Have fun by creating your own gulal to avoid environmental damage due to toxic chemicals found in industrial dyes.Yellow: Mix turmeric powder with chickpea flour and boi marigold or tesu flowers in water.Deep Pink: Slice beetroot and soak in water.Red-Orange: Dry and powder henna leaves, then mix with water.

If you're celebrating Holi, have fun but don't forget to keep safe! Follow these simple steps.
1. Apply thick coating of nail varnish to protect your nails. 2. Red or pink coloured water/powder are easier to remove.  3. Oil your hair well. This ensures protection and ease when washing off any dye. Alternatively, wear a cap or hat. 4. Wear your "worst" clothes....just in case you can't get the stains out! 5. Use moisturiser on your face and skin to remove any residues at the end of the day. Let this festival of colour shower you with joy and remember this: good will always win over evil!!
