C'mon Punk Make My Day ... with Malina Joseph

πριν 196 μήνες

It was 30 years ago this month that Nancy Spungen, the volatile companion to Sex Pistol’s bassist Sid Vicious, was found dead in New York City’s Chelsea hotel. The torrid love affair between Sid and Nancy that ended gravely is thought to have detonated the punk scene in NYC.

Not only has the music transcended time and influenced future artists and generations but its signature rebellious style and distinctive elements-leather, zippers, skinny jeans, tartan and combat boots. Not since its incarnation in the 70’s has punk had a powerful revival as it has this season.

From social rebels like Alice Dellal and her second skin of torn fishnets and Doc Marten boots to model street style citizen Agyness Deyn and her disobedience to high-end fashion standards, these London ladies are bringing fashion back to the streets.

Designers don’t have a blind eye to this quiet riot. On the contrary, it is one of the biggest trends to emerge from fall. From Balmain’s tapered Scottish plaid pants and skin tight leather adorned with zippers and Rodarte’s unraveled web stockings and dangerously studded footwear to Alexander McQueen’s homage to British patriotism and his “God Save McQueen” scarf, designers have brought about a new wave for Fall.

Whether downloading the Sex Pistols and incorporating a leather motorcycle jacket into your wardrobe is the extent of rocking this look, make sure any of you die hard trendsetters don’t go to the extreme with the beauty-aspect of the punk scene because while toping off your New York Doll groupie look with a blue Mohawk may seem authentic keep in mind that the season is short and like fellow Stardoll Heidi Klum says “one moment could be in and the next its out.”
