Transforming Your Wardrobe

il y a 95 mois

One of my favourite trends ever is D-I-Y fashion, as it allows you to take a piece of old clothing and completely transform it, and make it personal to you. This is a 'trend' that has been around for decades, with one of the earliest being 'make do and mend' during WWII. As fabric was rationed, decorative patches would cover holes and tears in worn-out clothing, and menswear would be turned into womenswear.

More notably, D-I-Y fashion was huge with the Punk subculture during the 70-80s, where they would create political statements with their clothing, as well as covering pieces in studs, rips and safety pins. With the two punk-inspired looks above, I have used studded cuffs on a bag, added a skull keychain to a choker, and also chains and safety pins to the denim. Even though it's super fun to do it yourself, you can buy distressed denim, ready patched and studded pieces from many stores.

My last two looks are definitely my favourites! I was inspired by FRUiTS magazine, which focuses on Tokyo street style. I love kitsch and cartoon patches and pins, so this jacket from Antidote was perfect. Of course, I went and added more pins! Earrings are also good to use as pins, and have done this with the cherry and peace sign pins on the jacket. You could also create some really inexpensive pins in Stardesign Hair and Jewelry! Again, there are many ready patched pieces everywhere right now, and have been seen on the Marc Jacobs and Emma Mulholland runways.

Thank you for reading! How do you make your clothes your own?
